Page 400. I’ve honestly been slacking off, and I’m gonna go by the AA dogmas described here in excruciating detail and simply describe this is a fact with no attribution to external causes. It is a dense read, but there are gems in here, and I’m honestly really starting to get into alternate timeline of early 2000s US politics here. Unfortunately, Johnny Gentle seems like a very prescient character.

I‘m more than halfway through!!!! (I‘ve been reading all the footnotes too, don‘t worry about that)
Gately‘s cooking skills made me laugh out loud. Lots of good stuff in these 100 pages!! Excited for what comes next lol

This book really demands your full attention; perhaps this is why I’m not reading as much as I’d like. Maybe this is the right way to enjoy it too though - both in bits and in rapturous Reading sessions.
Honestly, I would love to talk to Hal. I‘m still not convinced on the whole tennis thing but I do love an etymology nerd.
Also the plot is *kinda* kicking in. I wonder if we‘ll see more action.

some initial thoughts:
it‘s really unlike any book I’ve ever read. There‘s so many characters, so many deep dives into tangential topics and exhausting descriptions of various facilities and feelings and events. It is frustrating at times, but I do get a chuckle out of it quite often. So far I am pretty motivated to continue.
Also the whole videophony affair mentioned is actually really really prescient I think
