The tone of the book is strange to me. It's in past tense and written like someone recalling events long ago. I am not a fan of the use of "and so it was" and "thus" in this context. It's like the book is trying too hard to sound sophisticated or significant.

I get that this book is intrigue, but we don't get much "why" from the characters, especially regarding their religious faith. She WANTS to be a sex-slave.
