Don’t hate me guys, I’m reallyyyyy hoping this picks up soon because so far we’ve spent -10 minutes with Quasimodo, Esmeralda, & characters I’m actually interested in, and 110101 minutes with Gringoire the poet who is incredibly salty that no one in Paris appreciates his genius play….

Hugo’s writing takes a littleee getting used to, but by the time I reached chapter 3 of book/part 1 I feel like I was beginning to enjoy it. The introduction of Quasimodo was very vivid—Obviously he is described to be much uglier/scarier in the book than he was in the Disney film—and I’m excited to see all the differences between the movie and the source.

I might be in the minority (according to other reviews, which I skimmed before finally committing to starting this book) but I LOVED the Disney film when I was younger— Hunchback of Notre Dame was a staple in my house, the VHS tape was so worn out that my parents had to buy a second one. My childhood nostalgic love for the movie is why I waited so long to read the book, but I’m ready now, and I’m excited!
