There’s just the slightest hint of cautious optimism creeping in, but a lot of the commentary on addiction and drugs feels odd.
I want to say it feels tone deaf, but I keep asking myself how I would do any better.

The whole poverty-suffering-drugs shtick is getting really old.
The appeal of this book is burning out for me because of how miserable it’s turning out to be.

welp. what i was talking about turned out to be true - everything WAS leading up to something bad happening.
demons knee is busted and he’s going to be a painkiller addict soon.
i hope it’s addressed in a manner that doesn’t make it feel like more misery porn.

It’s a welcomed situation where the poverty stricken protagonist is actually doing pretty well for himself, but I am still getting the impression that something exceptionally bad is about to happen, like the way a roller coaster tracks up before it inevitably slides down.

I could read more and probably get to 300 pages right now, but I wanna have lunch and then shower, so I’ll continue in the evening.

A VERY welcome change in pace, with Demon getting a break from all the. misery and nihilism that he's been subjected to till now, but it feels like it's all going to come crashing down, which would be fine, but I hope it doesn't seem like more poverty/misery porn when it does.

A much needed change of pace, where everything is not miserable and not everyone is suffering.

While the story can get overbearing at times, I feel like the writing is just strong enough to keep you engaged.

I can see now as to why people called this poverty porn - the suffering is starting to get just a tad bit excessive, but i’m still looking forward to reading more about demon.

Demon’s mom just passed away from an OD, and it’s heartbreaking to see how angry and resentful he is.
I wonder how this will play out in the future.
