Bad men, good directors. By praising these films for their depictions of domestic horror we are in turn sanctioning the domestic and workplace abuse that directors like Polanski and Kubrick enacted on the women in the films. They were acting of their own psychology and their hailing as good directors sanctions their abuse.

The Exorcist, Stepford Wives, and The Omen - all situated within the domestic sphere. Stepford and Omen presenting a false "partner" dynamic between the wife/mother and the patriarch - while the Exorcist presents a fiction of the horrors that plague the liberated, unpartnered, woman birthed from the feminism of the 70s. All three concerned with domestic battery, reproductive abuse, and upholding the paterfamilias.

The horror of Rosemary’s Baby is not Satanism or the supernatural - but rather the domestic violence and reproductive abuse that Rosemary undergoes. It is the external decision making of her life and that of her child by her neighbors, a coven, and her own husband that is the ultimate betrayal. I would argue then that reproductive abuse and forced pregnancy is itself akin to demonic behavior.
