Wow. Holy crap. My data is being sold, anonymized, 15 ways to Sunday whenever I get a prescription, but I really can't rely upon two health systems to share my own health information between themselves effectively. After I finish the Notes (which can be almost as entertaining as the chapters of a well-written book) I'll write up my review. Patricia Wilson might enjoy this book.

Neal Patterson of Cerner fame is mentioned in the context of interoperability. This is an interesting contrast that the author is drawing here between the ease by which anonymized (and identified) medical data can be shared as compared with the utter challenge of patients compiling their own entire medical records so that all of their caregivers possess all of a patient's medical history

The older I get it the more that what I read folds back upon my own life. I just read a few quotations from a Cerner executive, Cerner being the software that I use at work to manage electronic health records. This business of re-identifying medical data previously "scrubbed" of patient identifiers seems extremely plausible to me. With enough computing power & algorithms all sorts of freaky things become possible.

The founder of IMS (purveyor of medical data) does not sound like an ethical man.

This is not going to be a feel-good book for me. Oof.
