I've sort of slowed down with this novel. It starts to feel a little too writerly when there is a major event/action. The voice of narrator is still so academic, when it would, most likely be more grounded in real life events and feel more immediate (instead of philosophical, for example).

Still remarkable writing - though the story itself doesn't really compel me to read. Also, for being written in the mid 90s, I'm surprised at how timely (timeless?) the political elements are
