Good! I read about the three goals of conversation: to encourage, to help people work towards goals and aid personal growth, and to inspire awe. I think I’m most impacted by the awe. I think I am a person that is able to awe pretty easily, and so I think I can use this to help people get to a place of worship through my conversations. I think I can improve the most on aiding in personal growth.

We need to be able to put our own conversation desires aside and try and figure out what our partner wants to talk about and how we can bless them in conversation in that way!

This was a long chapter but it talked about all the possibilities in conversation with 6 topics: social, emotional, physical, cognitive, volitional, and spiritual. I think it was neat to think about asking physical questions because people don’t usually get asked that and it is something that people want to talk about. It was also an interesting perspective on the spiritual questions and how easy it is to use them

I learned in this chapter to view what I have to say as a gift that I get to give to people and something that could be something that someone is looking for! I also learned about having and entering conversations by faith. Having faith in this gift of connection that God gave us enables us to reach out to people we might be scared to reach out to and enter into conversations we might not enter into otherwise.

The last chapter was about how to practice good conversation skills which was by letting others speak, listening, limiting distractions, and loving through your face. I was most impacted by listening for things like core values and what THEY VALUE and identifying those in conversation as well as listening for stories of transformation and how we can be surprised by hearing from others and their unique lives.

Today I read about pitfalls in conversation. The pitfalls I identified for me were: arrogance, criticizing, and complaining. I want to go into conversations with a mindset of exploring “what I can learn from this person and their experiences and perspectives?”. I want to lift others up and have them leaving a conversation feeling encouraged and inspired with a sense of awe and love for the Lord!

I hope that I bring kindness and wisdom to a conversation. I fear I bring loud interruptions that do not build anyone up or allow people to feel heard.

This was insightful to think about the nature of conversion and how we use our conversations today. We can change the norm and not be divisive with our words!

Today I read about using my conversations as a way to show Christ through humility, love, and connection. Our conversations are not always about us and God building us for connections allows me to be able to use conversations as a way to display God’s love and see others as more important than myself. I’ve never really thought of conversations in this way before and it was very eye opening!

It’s really good! It definitely makes me think. I read about the four mindsets for a living conversation. I need to grow in sharing my life.
