Recently, I have read about the Monkey and the pedestal. Do not give yourself a sense of false progress by focusing on the easy stuff (the pedestals), instead focus on the monkey (the difficult bottlenecks). Pedestals create a sense of false progress.

The other thing she began talking about is a kill list. Similar to the conversation about boundaries I had in my negotiations class. Before starting a project, create a clear set of items or things you could learn that would cause you to stop with what you are doing. This list allows you to stay clear headed about the direction and when to quit.

It is currently talking about how difficult it can be to quit a losing decision once you have poured in resources to the decision. This can happen with a car that’s old and so much more. Being mindful of what you created and what legacy you want to leave behind is so important, and if it s a dying business you need to be aware of that.

I am learning about when to walk away, and how in poker the ones who come out on top are the ones who knew when to walk away and make the decision to quit. I think about this in my personal life. Sometimes you put so much time and energy into something you can’t quit, but even in relationships, you can. You have to reevaluate everything as if you are making the decision for the first time.
