this chapter just epitomizes how the white man never lives up to his word. 😆 it’s just ridiculous what they could get away with during the beginnings of our democracy (and still do to this day).

it just baffles me that TJ said “sex with black women would degrade whites morally” yet he had sex with black women constantly. this just makes me wonder why can’t we just NOT CARE and be decent humans.

at this point, i’m very much aware (as i was before reading this) that interracial liaisons occurred very frequently and TJ most likely fathered sally’s children. let’s see where this takes us!

woah. halfway through chapter 3 has me googling names of prominent people throughout the beginning times of american society in regards to interracial “liaison” and i’m not surprised about what i’m reading but i’m just like “WOW these guys are so gross.” can’t wait to finish the chapter.

wow. this chapter really shows that TJ cherry-picked his own public rhetoric to suit his daily behavior, even when it directly conflicted with what he was saying out loud.

this is probably the best way to learn about the different perspectives on jefferson and sally’s relationship or lack there of. but wow! americans are so dumb and ignorant. this book is already proving that we only want to see the “good” in things even if it may be to our cultures detriment.

i’m so excited to keep reading.
