We get a nice moment of DL and Frenesi enjoying post-protest burgers. Frenesi is bright-eyed speaking of revolution, DL finds her naive yet cute. We then move onto a story of DL’s past. Her parents military family life in Japan. DL studying under Inoshiro Sensi while hiding from her parent’s troubles. DL is a ninja weapon. Back to the ninja retreat, Prairie and DL await Funimota’s arrival.

c8. p107-129.

DL and Prairie arrive at the Sisterhood of Kunoichi Attentives. A ninjutsu themed retreat. We meet Sister Rochelle. Who suggests knowing Frenesi. Prairie joins the kitchen crew. She uses the onsite computer to view records of her mother’s past. Time Frenesi and DL spent years ago. We Segway into DL reminiscing on when she rescued Frenesi from a protest in Berkeley. Then into DL’s parents past.

c7. p99.

Prairie is checking herself out, at the Italian wedding, in the bathroom. The business card Zoyd gave her starts triggers a tune when Darryl Louise Chastain (new face) enters. Triggering the “trust device.”DL knows Prairie’s mother.

c6. p68-91.

We get a lot of Frenesi reflecting on her past. Admits she wouldn’t recognize Prairie if they met today. Reminiscing about her past w/ Flash, and their son Justin. This is after Frenesi abandons Prairie with Zoyd, and upsetting Vond (reports of him throwing a fit). Her life history with her mother Sasha and father Hub. Political and radical upbringing. Chapter ends with Frenesi rushing to cash a check.

c5. p56-67.

Zoyd reflects on chasing Frenesi to Hawaii during her affairs with Vond. Conversations w/ Sasha, mother in-law. She looks after Prarie in LA. After being rejected by Frenesi at a hotel. Zoyd goes bar hopping, ultimately landing a gig playing synthesizer on a party plane traveling between LA and Hawaii. He tells a story of airplane pirates hijacking a flight, and saving Takeshi Fumimota. Business Card.

c4. p35-55.

Zoyd borrows a Datsun pickup w/ camper. Goes crawfish catching at Phantom Creek. Reminisces about his ex, Frenesi. Prairie’s mom. Days they spent falling in love and getting married. The Sixties. Beer Riders and Surfers. Crawdads caught, Zoyd learns that a militarized force is in town looking to capture him, led by a Brock Vond. Hector gets caught by the TV agents. Zoyd sends off Prairie with Isaiah.

c3. p22-34.

Zoyd and Hector grab a bite at a nearby diner/bowling alley. Reminiscing about drug bust informant encounters during hippy beach summers in Gordita Beach San Diego. Hector informs Zoyd is ex-wife Frenesi is awol after being in witness protection, and he wants help tracking her down. Zoyd is reluctantly lazy. A group of NEVER agents burst into the diner looking for Hector, who flees.

c2. p14-21.

Zoyd and Prairie hangout at home, snack, and watching TV. Prairie’s bf Isaiah comes over. Talks about a goofy business idea with Zoyd. A dot of theme park for adults focused around war and violence. Zoyd gets Isaiah a band gig playing a wedding, and is happy thinking about his daughter boyfriend drama while dreading his rendezvous with Hector.

Isaiah’s “Violence Centers” for adults is a good idea. Paramilitary jungle obstacle coarse sounds rad as hell.

Isaiah Two Four. Prairie’s boyfriend. Punk dude with an acid green Mohawk with magenta tips. Zoyd’s favorite colors.
