I kind of wish the author got more into the “jobs” being done. Like we got to read about the first one but now we’re just being told the raids are getting bloodier and more violent but not how. I would like to read more about what they did in those moments. Otherwise, still a very heavy and thought provoking read! I’m very interested to see what happens between Isiah and Old Ben. I feel a big blow up coming.

I’m at the point where I feel like everything is going to come to a head. Very intrigued to see where the upcoming events take our characters and the effect it has on the love story between Lola and Isiah. They clearly love each other and I feel one he can trust her but he doesn’t trust himself and I worry that will fall back on her.

The meeting scene spoke very loud to me. A room full of people that are outraged and hurt became almost empty at the talk of fighting back. Those four young men staying says a lot. Fighting back against oppression is hard, but fighting back knowing that it could be the end of your life is something that not everyone has to think about. It makes me think of my grandparents who went through these things first hand.

First of all, I’ve only gotten through the first 2 chapters so far but I’m hooked. The reality of my ancestors and their strength never ceases to amaze me. I felt like I was in that house and felt that fear but also the fight for better.
