It’s very strange. I’ve just done finished a chapters that’s a full reread from being sent there earlier. And it’s strangely comforting to come across the familiar in this book, it’s not a safe haven because nothing is. Rather it’s familiar ground so you know how it’s paved, but with the context from earlier it’s much richer and more enlightening. This book is crazily clever. I’m so impressed.

When people say chapter 9 is an actual labyrinth they’re not wrong. You’re moving throughout the chapter, forwards and backwards, reading upside down and to the side. One point shining my phone torch through the page to read words backwards. The genius implications this has for the burns earlier in the book is wild. This book is outrageous

So despite me seemingly merely being on page 97, I have ingested far more pages than that. I have skipped forward to two whole chapters much later on, read multiple appendices and exhibits at the back of the book, and decoded a secret letter. It’s a mammoth book, but I’m loving the journey so far.
