Not as good of an introduction as, say the epic “John Adams” or “Pioneers”. Lots of nicknames for fathers and sons and uncles and it gets a bit confusing. TR himself is not even a central figure yet.

First two parts were difficult but now that TR’s father has passed (sadly), it is so much easier to understand which Theodore is THE Theodore.

Very interesting chapter on asthma in the 1800s. One wonders what personal trauma TR experienced early in childhood that could contribute. McCullough, writing in 1982, doesn’t seem to consider that, but does find asthma linked to emotions.
