Carrie is a whore. She is a cunt. I have this weird feeling for Julie as an antagonist. I like her character.

Okay so all the times when I read this book before I didn’t quite understand Carrie’s decisions. Now, I do. I can see clearly why Drouet is not the perfect match and I can the same bizarre way Carrie feels, sophisticated. Hurtswood does really sound like the man you would like, and while Drouet gave her the chance to be th woman she wanted to be, that doesn’t mean she has to sacrifice herself.
