instead of reveling in twists in plot, nabokov takes a step back at the big moments-fracturing it into small images or spinning feelings into unrelated images-an interesting way of showing how humbert (and because it’s his POV, the reader) is so preoccupied with motive rather than the resulting action. this is what makes it an “enjoyable” read despite everything
