Before starting this book, someone told me Dostoevsky was a master of having a conversation where more people keep showing up and increasing the tension, and I'm really seing that now. A chapter just ended with "...but at that moment the door opened and a personage came in who was a stranger to all present." And this is after Zossimov already appeared in a similar fashion a chapter before lol
