The “back cover” is a bit misleading. I truly enjoy the novel but Helena is not a sad grieving old lady that Eleanor swoops in and drowns out her sorrows with her piano playing. A bit the opposite—Helena is a harsh woman who tests Eleanor every day. The two are a battle of the wills and neither wants to back down. While an underlying theme in the book is music, that is not what saves either of them.
