Fascinated by the winding ways the years of friendship are like disparate threads pulled taut in weaving to create a portrait. Sometimes Matar has these glorious sentences that take you by the hand to run with you until you reach their emotional destination.

Also the cat eating a man was more about how it’s important to protest when someone is hurting you. And yep, that story is still relevant. It’s how he gets a scholarship 🤪

Glorious. The prose, the sentiment… at this time in my life, a story full of gorgeously written platonic yearning for one’s intimate friends just hits the spot.

Although the story about the cat eating a man alive from the feet up as a metaphor for dictatorship was unexpected lol
