The survey of prehistoric and ancient civilizations are interesting and the author makes interesting points, but the analysis seems weak. It currently reads like average history with a thin veneer of nondescript radicalism brushed on top. The author is a Trotskyist, which isn't a big deal, but to call this Marxist feels like a stretch.

The author will quote a sentence fragment from Marx or Engels without any indication of the source. It's not a big deal, they're all very commonly quoted lines that are quickly found in a google search, but it's much easier to just state the reference. Also the author better not use the "guns, germs steel" thesis...

His description of Athenian "democracy" is insane omg. He says the Parthenon is a "great architectural monument" but the pyramids of ancient Egypt were decadent displays of class subjugation and false-consciousness. I do find his idea that "revolution" happens in the periphery interesting though. (His use of the word revolution is extremely loose however)
