This one sneaks up on you!! I don’t remember the last time I got genuinely creeped out by a book.
It achieves my favorite aspect of Shirley Jackson’s writing - building horror and suspense through mistrust and disgust. It maintains a level head as a haunted house novel without diverting to camp. Very impressed thus far!
