I like this but the author is a privileged western man and it shows. What is a desperate attempt to safety and better life for his friends is a dangerous and cool adventure to him. The scene where he burns his Canadian passport to pass as an Afghan refugee with no reflection on what having the passport and everything it implies would mean for the real refugees… ough

Oh yeah. But then 1) he has another passport waiting for him in Italy and 2) in case it all goes g wrong all he needs is to get to Canadian embassy to get a new temporary passport. So yeah. Privileged much 🙄
But mostly it’s good and does understand his/our privilege and the larger context when he’s not on his adventure ride. Worth the read at least as 30% :)
