My first Wally Lamb book was 12 years ago with The Hour I First Believed. I tend to immerse myself in stories while reading them, but forget much about them when I’m done. Parts of this book still haunts me, which is why I picked up The River is Waiting. What strikes me about Lamb books in my experience, and what has stuck with me is the moral injury the characters face—in both books. It is identifiable.
