The first thing a man must realize is that he has nothing to offer God. Man is like a child asking his father for a six-pence-piece to buy the father a gift. Only a fool would say that the father, upon receiving the gift, was benefiting six-pence worth.

But, in exchange for this nothing, God deems it fit to give us everything.
