Finished Book Alpha (1) A3. Section briefly reintroduces the four causes (material, formal, efficient, final) before going into a review/survey of prior philosophers and their attempts at thinking about metaphysics. Aristotle begins with the materialists and points out how the material cause wasn't enough to explain change which led to the discovery of the efficient cause i.e. what makes things move/change.
