omg marcus and teriana got attacked by a shifter of the inlanders of arinoquia. they spoke the cel language and told marcus that there was a person with the same mark as him (37th legion tattoo) that had come earlier and told the people of the empire and what they do, and as such evidently stayed long enough to teach them their language. it’s another agrippa mention!
and then went through the crystal.

spoiler: sm has happened. and i’m so hurt that my favorite character agrippa, who i’ve been waiting to come back for two and a half books) has become one of my least, bc betrayed the good people again. he’s a survivor, but at what selfish cost to literally everybody else in all of the lands? he’s like a cockroach. but i guess that’s partially why i like him sm, bc he’s morally grey, his own survival first

i hated that the mimic monster used marcus’ voice to blame and call agrippa a deserter, but it’s what got lydia to out herself as being from celendor too, and they spoke. it’s been 4yrs since agrippa fell through to the other side of the world and been labeled “deserter” and knowing the fate of such legionnaires is sm worse than awful.
i hope lydia and agrippa talk more and become allies and even friends.

my favorite character in this series since the prequel, agrippa, told killian how he came from the celendor empire to arinoquia and north to derin/the deadground territory. he informed him that he commanded rufina’s army. though it doesn’t surprise me that he’d be commander bc he truly is That great (rivaling and then commanding alongside marcus), but it disappoints me to know for who he commanded for

spoiler: not that i don’t like killian and lydia together, but i was merely okay (if not slightly disappointed/dissatisfied) with them starting a sexual relationship, though oddly i enjoyed it more when lydia told him that malahi was still alive and he responded with “those should have been the first words that existed your lips” and walked away from her, angry and guilt-ridden.

spoilers. initially, i thought felix was the one who betrayed them… but after marcus’ conversation with him, i don’t think it’s him. felix is in love with marcus, maybe since childhood, and he’s jealous, but he’s always been loyal and hopefully still is. he’s not stupid. and he wouldn’t risk the lives of the 37th legionnaires to get rid of a girl, no matter that the legion is better off without her.

i really hope this is a foreshadowing of the 37th legion finding him, or agrippa finding them, and that after so long he’ll finally get to tell his men, his brothers, what had happened to him and clear his name/number and no longer be considered the 37th’s first and only deserter. and that agrippa, after many years of being on this land, with insider information, will be able to help.

my assumption is that the legion might for a time think that marcus and teriana were either abducted or became deserters like agrippa. felix will take control of the legion in the meantime but will be haunted about what may have happened to them. and then agrippa might come back to the legion to help explain what had happened to him all those years ago, and what has happened to marcus and teriana, as they all had the fate of falling through the crystal to a different land.
