The preface and introduction are necessary for context because to label C.S. Lewis an apologist I think is misleading and I don't get the impression he'd want to be counted among them. Right away one can tell this book, with its naive and simple take on objective morality, was not meant as debate rhetoric but rather to soothe an already Christian nation facing a great evil during WWII.
