Gah! I hate that word! There are a lot of 'romance words' that others can't stand that don't particularly bother me, but nubbin really annoys me.

I was under the impression that the Amish go out of their way to avoid any type of ostentation, which would include bright colours in their clothing.

And I just checked Wikipedia's page, their description of Amish clothing fits exactly what I thought - dull muted clothing in browns, greys, blacks and occasionally denim with white or black aprons.
