This bit about her being found guilty by a tribunal of middle class white women in college, for breaking curfew, and the punishment was not leaving her dorm for a while, really illustrates this bullshit carceral mindset outside of the prison industrial complex.

Earliest I ever heard of AD, it was cause my mom said everyone told her she had hair like her when she was a teenager (my mom did have afro-like hair at the time). But it didn't click until now why Angela was so famous in communist Romania of the 70s. Well, d'ugh, it's because she was persecuted as a communist in the US.

Oof, I hate how sexism plays into leftist movements and texts. It's just really disgusting, trying to push the women into the background. Liberation for all, damnit.

Angela Davis talking about Anmeldung and the bureaucracy in Germany is extremely hilarious because it's such a freaking pain 🥲 🥲

A few days ago I saw Francois Ozon's adaptation of Camus's 'L'etranger' and I was comparing and contrasting Davis's attitude towards jail with Mersault's whole isolation and bullshit... Imagine my surprise now that Davis mentions how in the next jail (California) she was moved to she decided to isolate herself after getting involved with existentialist texts of Camus & Sartre. Lol.

Love that Angela Davis read The Communist manifesto in high school and fell in love! It's such a pleasure to listen to her, I can't even.

I love this part about homosexuality (lesbianism) in the jail and the kinship networks formed between women. Switching pronouns, marriages officiated by other inmates and so on. Fascinating.

The account of her jail experience is pretty heartbreaking... Puts me in mind of Connie of Woman on the Edge of Time in many ways.
