Dakota Reads page 139 “The “police shortage” articles assuming the need to preserve or increase the current number of armed police officers are really about something else: the question of whether our society wants to reduce key forms of inequality or not. If we do not, then we may have a “shortage” of police and prisons, because the amount of repression it takes to manage and enforce extant levels of inequality and predation is significant. This is what the specter of a “shortage” means to many of the sophisticated people invoking it.”
