Okay now we’re cooking! I love complex characters making hard decisions. Especially decisions I don’t agree with, but can ultimately understand from their perspective. That’s some great characterization.
Also, Groff has a special way of emotionally punching you in the gut in only a few pages. Incredible.

Between the Shadow and the Soul: 2.5/5
I’m a bit concerned after this second story. I love short story collections full well knowing there will be hits and misses from story to story, but when I saw a review of this collection say that this story was their favorite, it officially made me nervous. I simply did not connect with this one. Will give this collection a couple more shots to see if it trends up for me
