A lovely fable, endearing yet it remains interesting through to the end. The omniscient narrator perspective means that there’s not much mystery for the reader; the plot suspense all comes from wondering whether the characters will figure out the truth about the mysterious horse living among them. This is the second of Jane Smiley’s books that I’ve read, and it won’t be the last.
