What a vibrant, gasping depiction of sudden love - love at first sight is so often done so poorly, but that's how you write it so it matters. Also: "Do you think you lose your faith, because your faith does not want you? That would be easy! My life would have been a happier one!" I love all the ! in his speech and how he's giddy as he says it - to a mysterious dead woman in an old photo who clambers out of the frame!

Shrieking at the email reveal. And how the chapter ends without us getting Thomas' reaction! This is how you build tension, how you write a novel. Thinking: Thomas sees himself often as happily without free will - he's a star in orbit, following his course (but convinced, desperately convinced, that he IS orbiting, not adrift never to return...) vs. how Dimi saw himself as unhappily taken by river currents.

ohhh Grace. I can't believe you did that. I understand why you did that! This book, in the best way, feels almost Victorian for all it's set in modern day - and Biblical without a bit of it being preachy. You have to go slow, you have to savor.
