reading for work stuff. this is so ya fantasy, feels just like the marie lu books i stopped reading in high school. i forgot how the ya fantasy genre has such specific conventions, a common tone and type of plot and way of building a cast of characters and plucky orphan protagonist viewpoint, etc.
