Just learned so much more about the atchafalaya and the Mississippi River and Louisiana history and Cajun people and river locks and levees than I knew existed! My own perception of the Mississippi has been shaped by Minnesota, by lake itasca, the 694 bridge, and boom island. Now I know there’s a whole world south to catch & release all I know. I need to visit the atchafalaya and southern Louisiana!

Part two of the book is all about volcanoes and lava and Iceland and Hawaii. Safe to say I hope to never be present at an active eruption where it is raining ash and fire and poison and glass and bombs. But really really cool to see geology sped up where mountains are made in a week, and how that changes people & the land. I’ll visit a volcano one day & see new rock and the vastness of it all :)
