im gonna dnf i thought this was gonna be a very different sort of book lol

she's "too chinese" by supporting mao's proletarian policies and opposing tibetan indepence and considering herself a communist but "too western" by....reading biographies of human rights leaders like nelson mandela......................girl those arent at odds.

the people saying they arent distinct are correct lol

"made a note to tell someone to vet the interns more carefully" girl it is not her fault she unexpectedly ran into you while drunk and asked questions about the personal life things YOU publicly shared!!!!!!!!!!

oh good lets invite more people on the trip and get bogged down w her husband some more and be a bit weird politically about china and the middle east. girl get OVER the planning and INTO the noodles!!

I just need to make it past the "wah wah my marriage" bit of this book and sink my teeth into the food and culture stuff and then we will be cooking with fire. if the "wah wah my marriage" stuff persist i Will be annoyed bc thats a bait and switch for the type of self reflective aspects of non food stuff i was expecting from this book

'censorship made the chinese newspapers boring.........so instead we read the new york times.' okay girl.

since somewhat ageless fairy tale esque fantasy fiction doesnt want to comport itself to my whims i am instead once more asked to embrace the humble foodie travelogue
