“I’m hurting, too, baby.” His voice cracks. “I love you. I’m losing here too you know and if you run from me, it will be the end of me.” I open my eyes and see the dark pool of blood between my legs and slowly sit up to face Kip. “They’re gone.”

It takes several more minutes for me to calm down before I can go to Chloe. My dad walks me through swinging doors and I hold his hand just like I did on my first day of school. The sterile smell makes me sick, but it’s not until we enter the ER room Chloe’s in that I want to vomit.

Supper: So "the Hero" Kip (former cop) just ambushed & beat the ex, spit on him, used a golf club on him, broke his bones etc. Even though he's an abusive jerk, I wish he hadn't done that. Self defense is different.

I realize in this moment I’ll never be able to live without her. It happened fast and it’s something I’m still having a hard time fully comprehending. Chloe came into my life and swept off with my heart. I never had a chance to fight any of this, but I have all the desire to fight like a raging mother-effer to keep it.

He begins to move in and out of me. I feel wetness coating my face and bring a hand to my cheeks. It’s not my eyes. Kip has tears flowing out of his eyes. I bring my hand to his face and catch each one.

"You really think they’re going to believe a nobody whore like you over me?” He laughs into the phone. “I’ll see you in court and have no problems going to the cops.”
“I’ll kill you.”
“Bye, Zack.”

“Kip, will you wait for me? You deserve all of me.”
“I’m not a patient man, Chloe.” My heart freezes in my chest. I close my eyes and want to cry.
“Open your eyes, baby.” He waits for me to look back into his deep pools. “You didn’t let me finish.” He kisses the tip of my nose. “I’ve never wanted to wait for something so badly in my life. I’m not going anywhere, Chloe. You’ve done something to me.”

Just let me wash your hair for you & then I’ll be out.” I drop my head to his chest feeling defeated like never before. I’ve never felt so helpless, even when being beaten by Zack. He’d pin me to the floor and repeat blow after blow and even in those times I felt more powerful than I do now.
