i feel like i’m genuinely taking forever to read this book - it’s been 2 years - & it is because the inclination towards objective historical retelling is an unsteady one. one would think the narrativisation of a thousand years of history with an affable authorial tone would draw us in, but surprisingly it is deeply offensive at times. for a historical work there is far too much opinionation. i kinda hate it.
