Just what I needed to complete my GR experience: a pile-up of people who 5-starred a book I DNFed w/nothing negative about it besides that it wasn't for me.
Look, when someone drops a book & says it isn't for them, THEY MEAN EXACTLY THAT AND NOTHING MORE. It's not a slight or insult, it's taste, mood, maybe I was tired that day & didn't want that kind of book. Don't read more into it & ascribe things I haven't said!

Sometimes a book simply isn't for you. It happens. We all have different tastes, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Some people need to learn to let others have their reactions in peace. We know our own tastes better than them and know why it wouldn't work for us, so to drop it is best than to force us to read it and end up with a negative rating/review for it. What's so hard to understand about that?
This pisses me off. I can get why readers who loved a book react negatively to 1 stars for that book, but going after those who simply DNFed it is taking it one step beyond and being too personal.
Just my luck because now even my DNFs reach top of the page for some books because I have lots of friends here who 'like' my stuff.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! People are so quick to attack you for not liking a book that they loved with all their soul, and that time it's not even personal, but they make it personal. I thought we were grown enough to understand that what you like won't be the same for me.
I’m sick of people making someone 1 starring a book a big deal, especially if it’s a popular one that has tons of 5 stars 💀 now a DNF? That’s even worse!
We all need to be accepting of everyone until someone does something we don't agree with. That kind of seems to be a popular attitude lately.
Say it louder for the people in the back. It's wild to me how many people get personally offended by this.
Are these ‘friends’ of yours? Or just random people? I suggest blocking the random people and possibly removing or blocking the people who might be friends as well. Or perhaps, and I know easier said than done, glance over them, delete the comment and put it from your mind. Do not engage. It seems like some people simply want a reaction from you. Don’t give them the satisfaction. Show them their comments don’t take up space in your thoughts.
If a book isn't to your taste, then there's no need to finish it. No one has the right to force someone to like a book.
That's why I'm happy I don't read books that are currently popular. They often draw in the most toxic behavior.
Things like this make me afraid to say anything 😭 you’re a better person than me. I’d rather prefer shouting into the void as opposed to a lot of eyes

Norma (I'm here just have assignments to do now) wrote: "People are so quick to attack you for not liking a book that they loved with all their soul, and that time it's not even personal, but they make it personal."Heh, I've had people telling me my reviews were "taking it personally" for ages, but until now they hadn't come for my DNFs.
I sometimes do explain why I DNF a book, but this one I didn't explain anything. I said it wasn't for me and . . . well, surprise! That's the one that got the pile-up of fans of that book.

Gretchen wrote: "We all need to be accepting of everyone until someone does something we don't agree with. That kind of seems to be a popular attitude lately."Yeah! Just when I think it can't get crazier online, it does. 🤣
Erica🤍 wrote: "Do you use fable? Sad you’re leaving Goodreads ❤️"I do not. ❤️ Besides here, I am at my website, where some friends have decided to comment instead of here. I'm the mod, so it's safer there if you're ever interested.
Mariella wrote: "Say it louder for the people in the back. Now it's DNFs, it seems.
Marta wrote: "Are these ‘friends’ of yours? Or just random people?"They were randos, all of them. I didn't engage, just deleted the pile up of comments they dropped on that review.
It's not just trolls that get on your nerves here, now it's oversensitive fans too. They all make me regret I periodically turn my comments for non-friends on for a while.

Meredith wrote: "If a book isn't to your taste, then there's no need to finish it. No one has the right to force someone to like a book."Basic concept, but you'd not believe how many online don't seem to grasp it.
Craig Vasiliev wrote: "I am sorry, sweetheart."Hey, I've been upgraded! 😆 Thank you. 😆 How do you say 'sweetheart' in Russian? I know the romantic word but not the affectionate one.
Meishuu wrote: "I’m sick of people making someone 1 starring a book a big deal, especially if it’s a popular one that has tons of 5 stars 💀 now a DNF? That’s even worse!"I wonder how much worse this will become if/when GR implements the rumoured "DNF" exclusive shelf? Don't want to think...
Persephone's Pomegranate wrote: "That's why I'm happy I don't read books that are currently popular. They often draw in the most toxic behavior."Oh, yes! They attract the most attention and 'likes' but also the most immature people. Probably because of the target audience's age range and that many of them aren't regular readers but "fad readers"? Who knows.

😉 Of course.
The term sweetheart for a woman, we typically say
Милая. Which sounds more like meelaya when spoken.
There are many slang versions of this word, however.
Depending on if you are addressing a woman or man with this endearment.

If people want to work themselves up to an angry stroke over you not finishing the book, might as well let them. Let them Darwin themselves out of existence. “Cause of death: hypertensive stroke because they wanted Marquise to keep reading the book she didn’t want to.”
Nataliya wrote: "If people want to work themselves up to an angry stroke over you not finishing the book, might as well let them. Let them Darwin themselves out of existence..."Death by Book Review? A ridiculous way to die, but not the worst. 🤣

Lucky gal, you! 😉
It is wearisome that some people get off the head over a perceived offense so to speak....No more than we can make ourselves like a certain foods perhaps...I couldn't be bothered with reading science fiction or a weird fantasy for example; if I started it mistakenly before realizing beforehand somehow...it would be a dnf but it shouldn't be an issue as just not my taste.....Some of these troll types would probably argue with the Lord himself let alone us mere mortals Marquise ;) *hugs*
