This chapter (7) really incites the emotion of rage and hatred . Mr.Bucklebitch or whatever he was called for me represents the average overally religious man— hypocritical. And when he mentioned something about that poor girls curly hair it made me viscerally upset. Now I appreciate the character complexity in Jane from last chapter to this one and how her sense of justice is changing. Still, very unfair chapter.

Chapter 8– I wonder about the relationship between Helen and Ms.Temple. I’m glad she’s such a nice lady and I’m glad Jane is cleared of such dubious charges, still I feel like I relate quite a bit with Jane. And overall I am enjoying the book and the verbosity displayed by Brontë is quite amusing. I did half of this chapter by audiobook so I’m not as clear as usual, it’s also a short chapter.

In chapter 6 we are better introduced to Helen B. A quite enigmatic character who’s Christian ideals don’t surprise me but interest me, I enjoy the contrast between Jane’s views and Helen’s even as I relate more to Jane’s, listening to her thoughts and experiences was quite enjoyable in this chapter, we also learn a tid bit more about the school and how terrible it is.

I just finished chapter 5 and we are introduced to the institution, what it is and who is there, it sounds dreadful. I’m also reading the comments on the Reddit page with people reading with me and I’m hearing that Brontë is setting the stage for plot holes in the future, still kind of boring but I enjoy how detailed classic novels are as it makes it easier to get into the novel and setting or even feelings.

I really liked chapter 4 because we finally get to see Jane standing up for herself. Abdul also exited for her to go to school and her friendship with Bessy was quite pleasant. I hated the pastor guy from the school.

This chapter (3) gives us a little hope, of Jane going to school and getting better, but who knows, we also find out about Jane’s family like her clergyman father and her reed mother and the author starts introducing themes of womanhood in the setting of the book and selfhood and identity, themes I didn’t expect for her to introduce to fast and so well. All though a lense of childhood innocence.

Chapter 2 was still very slow at this part of the story the author is focusing on minor details and developing the readers empathy and background for Jane, I truly feel bad for her, it sounds like a terrible situation to be in, it creates in me a great sense of justice. I still have a few questions and most of all I’m confused .

Im on chapter 1 and its quite disturbing. The first few pages are brutal, very gruesome in such a delicate manner, Charlotte’s prose is perfect for this type of story, rn I have more questions than answers. We will see
