Intriguing. Spoilers ahead. I think the barefoot girl is also a vampire, or perhaps the person who introduces Violette to the world of vampires (more likely the former though), and I think that Violette is a vampire herself, who has given up feeding on humans. Nanju is most likely a vampire, or will be turned later in the book.
