I was going to say, "Je déteste les Americains", mais some of those bêtes were Creole >:<
I really liked "Jean-ah Poquelin"... I really like GWC's attention to dialects and accents... that, sometimes, uncomfortable meeting of the Creole and American worlds. This story is also highly atmospheric... maybe a bit more than his other stories. I want old Louisiana to come alive, and Cable delivers.

"A Building and Improvement Company," which had not yet got its charter, "but was going to," and which had not, indeed, any tangible capital yet, but "was going to have some," joined the "Jean-ah Poquelin" war." (P. 112)
Haha... New Orleans has been New Orleansing since time began

Well let’s thank Jesus and the Holy Virgin that Tite Poulette didn’t have a drop of African blood in her so we could get our happy ending.. And we lived happily ever after in racial purity (weeps silently)
Gotta give Zalli fat props for nailing that reveal, though! “Congratulations! You’re the daughter of a dead Spaniard!”
Perhaps my fave story so far. The lightness in tone and humor was nice

I really like GWC’s writing. ‘Tite Poulette has a very charming, tongue-in-cheek humor to it. I hope it has a happy ending
