I’m so happy to have been able to read Tessa, Will and Jem again (Gabriel and Cecily too, of course — but you know what I mean), and Jessamine as well! I’m loving this book with all my heart, and I adore Simon’s struggle to understand where he belongs in the world and who he is within it… everyone else seems to know except him. I think we’ve all felt like that at some point.

Reading this book after “The Last Hours” turned out to be a good idea after all. It really shows the mastermind Cassandra is, laying foundations she would use much later. This book keeps surprising me… I love it.

I’ll stop asking why I didn’t read this book at the height of my obsession with the saga and accept it was a mistake. I would’ve loved it even more back then. After finishing the 2 story, I’m left with many questions. I know it came out a while ago, but I can’t help thinking Tobias and the hidden lineage may be something Cassandra explores later perhaps in “The Wicked Powers”. We’ll have to wait.

I’ve just finished the first tale, “Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy”, and once again I find myself asking, “Why the hell did I leave this book gathering dust on my shelf for so long?” I’m an avid Shadowhunters fan and, honestly, I can understand why this might not be everyone’s favourite story, but I genuinely loved it. I truly did. I’ll carry on with the next one and keep you updated.

I don’t know why it took me so long to give this book a proper chance. Nearly three years have passed since I last read anything from Shadowhunters, and I was starting to lose the thread a bit. But reading this book, at least the first story, brought back memories of the saga and reminded me why I loved it so much. And although Simon was never my favourite, I’m really excited to read about his Ascension.
