In Chapter 3, I’m confused when Q switches time between the party where she is & one she attended some time back. I didn’t hear the relative say the *word-all I heard was him asking her did she like games while holding cards. Anyone else confused by time flip and/or the quote? If anyone can help me understand this, please respond? TIA

In Chapter 3, did anyone else get confused by 1)where she goes back & forth in time between the party where she is now &
2)one that happened awhile ago? Also, when she says Tom’s relative called her a certain word but all the author tells us is the guy asks if she likes games as he’s holding cards? I am further into Chapter 3 now but I still can’t quite reconcile it. I’m listening to audiobook, btw. TIA
