Ok "bought" was a melodramatic word, I got it for free from my BOTM subscription. But still

I disliked two of her books so I don't know why I'm doing this to myself again but people really liked this one

That's how I felt! I wanted to see it through because it was the breakout of last year. I had hoped that meant she sanded down some of the issues from Once There Were Wolves. But this seems to amp them up, particularly the dark dynamics between men and women. And overloading her plot with reveals that don't add anything. I think people like plotty books because it feels like meaningful stuff happened. But this isn't delivering on building out the aftereffects.
