Burden of telling the story of rape falls on the victims.
Never telling from the person who raped, what happened and what their perspective is.
Valued hearing someone say “what was done to you”. To not be at fault.
Processing trauma will not turn back time.
Worried that by writing about rape she can manifest it.

Writing this book to make room in herself for others. Not writing this book for others.
No origin that precedes trauma.
Hold onto the joys, didn’t put it in the book, because those are hers. She keeps them close.
The trauma she does not see as hers. she can share - not that it is not someone else’s to carry, but it is her separation from it that allows it to live.

NYC winds up in bad places tryin to find money and support. Mentions 4 years, jumps to WE.

We is about recounting with therapist. Questioning own accountability in the not reporting and the permission granted to bad people allowing them to be bad to others.
In and out of “trans” language.

Mentions gang rape…first time?

YOU. Reflections on the writing of moving to ny. And the ups and downs. Serena is the worst.

If only could let herself be vulnerable with mom.
Really loved the pause for reflection — am I making these connections too simply. Requiring and forging ties between rape and these behaviors.
Name calling. Valuing her own desire over moral failing of being the other woman.

Clean slate recognizing that she had no consent. She either said yes, or it was taken.
To be ruined meant starting from a point of cleanness
Eating disordered reference - control prob
Insomnia of nothing
Have to manage anyone who might be sympathetic
Being taped all she was good at
Mean to professor so as to debase men as she had been.
All in her seeking control.

I did like a slut by the free clinic doctor.
Try to admit that she was raped, told she couldn’t be helped.
Free clinic an hour away from where she lived.
Accepting a ride negating her case of rape, in her mind. Thus why try anything else.

She

She/we/I language throughout

God, as a calm holding space (a cloud filled room)
Academia as a means of avoiding the first person hatred can sustain a relationship.
How simple to squander the physical needs to the needs of the intellect.

From Ovid, we know what gods will do when they come close.
Trauma plot rooted in the past. The best thing writer has to offer is the worst thing that happened. Author thinks this means unexamined, if you can’t tell the story without reflection and growth.
I write for those who haven’t given their trauma language
