Is Mike turning? Or at least, a hyper-mobile, self-aware creature like Trent??

So, we've got our cast of survivors(?) that have just escaped from a horde and have currently barricaded themselves in a room to keep the horde at bay. Still unsure on so many things...like where they are, and why our main character Mike is getting called another name?
