I am surprised by how boring I find this book. I always thought H.H. was supposed to be a charming unreliable narrator who draws you into his world. I find him pathetic and weak. That this writing has been compared to James Joyce's Finnegans Wake is incomprehensible to me. His puns are just that: puns.
Also: no one waste time on the annotated edition, 95% of the notes are superfluous.
