Rose and her two best friends are back at school for senior year. Rose has had feelings for her childhood best friend, Rob, forever, "I've thought about what a date with Rob would be like. A lot" (Serle 93). So on the first day of school after not seeing each other all summer, when Rob asks her on a date she is ecstatic. She is also very nervous, but really wants her and Rob to work out.

Rose and Rob are getting closer, after they went on a date. Soon Rose's cousin moves to her town, "But Juliet is my cousin. Just because we haven't been friends in a decade doesn't mean we couldn't start now" (119). Rose finds out Juliet likes Rob and things begin to turn down from there. Rob completely switches and becomes obsessed with Juliet, and Rose doesn't know what to do.
