Well written but continues to be a tough read dealing with so much of the brutality against women throughout history. Unfortunately I can’t say much is new knowledge but detail after detail of examples is a lot to comprehend. There of course is some new torturous practices I was not aware of, such as Australian Aboriginals cutting off flesh from women buttocks to eat during famines.

So far, the book offers an interesting historical lens on sexuality and genital symbolism, and how the emergence of a monotheistic god contributed to the decline of women’s status. I am especially interested in how women pushed back and maintained influence despite these shifts.

Also, humans are weird.
